Antonio Barceló was a Spanish sailor and explorer who lived from 1717 to 1797. He is known for his voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, including his expedition to the Gulf of Mexico and his exploration of the Bahamas, Cuba, and Florida. He was commissioned by the Spanish Crown to explore, map, and chart territories in North America, and his discoveries helped to expand Spain's colonial empire in the New World. In 1766, he founded the city of St. Louis in Senegal, which became an important center for Spain's African trade. Barceló is also credited with introducing new agricultural methods to Spain, such as crop rotation and the use of fertilizer, which helped to increase food production in the country. He died in Madrid in 1797.
